Grow Green! Monroe County Gardening & Conservation Speaker Series
Join us for a day of learning, inspiration, and local expertise! Hear from area professionals and educators who will share tips and techniques for better gardening, landscaping, and environmental care.  You may attend a different seminar each hour and gather useful handout from the other presenters.

9 – 9:50 a.m.
  • Barbara Gregerson, MSU Extension Consumer Horticulture Educator – Learn how to identify and manage vegetable garden diseases to keep your plants thriving.
  • Bob Potter, Tucker’s Farm Market of Temperance – Discover the secrets to growing tomatoes and peppers successfully, including variety selection, colors, and maximizing yields.
  • John Creguer, Morgan Farms (Dairy Doo) – Explore organic and non-organic soil fertility amendments perfect for vegetable raised beds and more.
10 – 10:50 a.m.
  • Lindsey Kerr, MSU Extension Horticulture Educator – Get informed about new invasive plant and insect species affecting our area, including Purple Loosestrife and Spotted Lanternfly.
  • Paul Pfeifer, MSU Hidden Lake Gardens – Take a virtual tour of Hidden Lake Gardens and its Conservatory, Bonsai collection, Gazebo garden, and unique dwarf and rare conifers.
  • Pete Loughney, River Raisin Institute – Learn the basics of starting seeds indoors and support a good cause with RRI’s seedling fundraiser.
11 – 11:50 a.m.
  • Jackson Cenusa, Monroe Conservation District – Get practical tree planting tips during the District’s annual tree sale fundraiser.
  • Ned Birkey, MSU Emeritus – Understand soil testing and results from an expert who has taught the Master Gardener Soils class.
  • Chris, Doug’s Repair, Temperance – Be ready for spring with a lawn mower maintenance presentation to keep your mower running smoothly all season.
