Monroe County has documented karst features (think sinkholes) since the mid-1800s. The nearby town of Ottawa Lake was named after a lake that was permanently drained in 1917 due to this unique geology. Monroe County and the surrounding areas are one of only three regions in Michigan with this type of bedrock. For more than 25 years, Ned has worked on karst-related environmental issues in collaboration with the Michigan Karst Conservancy. This presentation includes extensive photos and display materials.
